MOOD BOARD

Image
WHAT IS A MOOD BOARD? it is a array of  images, colors, textures, and design elements that capture a specific theme, concept, or emotion. Moodboards can be both online and physical, and include many things that can symbolize the given piece of media. THE MOOD BOARD IN THIS OPENING SEQUENCE SHOW CASES A RANGE OF THINGS, ESPECIALLY THE JENGA (WOODEN BLOCKS). this represents the importance of these in the protagonists visuals as they appear in every scene of the sequence.

Creative Critical Reflection (CCR)

Question 1: How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? This opening sequence was designed to fit drama genre , which typically includes emotionally intense storylines, realistic characters, and an intimate focus on personal conflict. My sequence follows a man in his 20s experiencing emotional isolation and mental health struggles, particularly triggered by the loss of his one and only best friend . This central theme of grief fits within drama conventions, but the way it is expressed — visually and silently — i personally believe adds depth to the representation. The sequence is set entirely in a cafĂ©, with the character seated alone, immersed in thought. This setting is grounded and realistic, aligning with the drama’s focus on everyday environments. I use natural lighting in the first half , transitioning into warm-toned overhead neon lights as the sun sets. This visual shift is symbolic — the natural light represents...

POST PRODUCTION

Image
After being done with the shoot, we’ve officially moved into post-production — and it’s been just as creative as filming. The editing process has given us a chance to really shape the narrative and mood of the opening sequence, especially by using timing, sound, and colour to reflect our character’s inner state. This also made us aware of a whole new world of production. The different types of editing, themes, music, color- scheming is really what turned this whole opening sequence production into a mind-boggling experience. Firstly, We started by organizing all the footage and selecting the best takes for each scene. It was interesting to see how much of difference the smallest things made — facial expressions, camera movement, even a certain way the light hit — all of it contributed to how natural or intense a moment felt. One thing we really needed to focus on was the transitions. The smooth shift between the present scenes and flashbacks is what would really make or brea...

PRODUCTION.

Image
POSTERS . TEASER BEHIND THE SCENES. LOCATION: PRODUCTION DAY: On the day of the shoot, We spent the whole day filming our opening sequence in a cafe, it was quite challenging. We started in the morning to get those soft natural lighting shots, and stayed until the night when we could bring in those neon tones for the time-pass scenes. Setting up took longer than expected, some people ran late, while the phone that the shots were supposed to be on [an Apple Iphone 13 pro] ran out of charge. but once we got into the flow, things started to come together. The actor absolutely nailed the emotional scenes — the close-ups especially hit hard. We used a mix of POV and wide shots to show the feeling of isolation and dissociation, and I think it worked even better than anticipated. The breaks we had in between the shots really helped all stay grounded, and hence made the production work a tad bit easier. There were a few challenges like some lighting inconsistencies as the day progresse...

RESEARCH AND PLANNING

What is Genre? Genre is without a doubt the most important features of a film production. The basis of a film project- the script- starts with knowing the genre it is gonna be based upon. With this the directors can easily identify there target audience, and create meaningful work. For example, thriller movies often have a deadline that the heroes life depends on, and a dark atmosphere is given to the film that has the consumers gripping there seats in anticipation. Thriller- enthusiasts also often find comfort in the compelling mind games that are often given in the films, making them addicted to the rare adrenaline this genre of film brings. This is what appeals the fans/ consumers of thriller movies and hence helps in the producers create the film with certain elements in it. What is Sub-Genre? Sub genre is the further classified version of genres, and is often mixed with other sub- genres of the bigger genre to give it a kick. One example of this, again, are thriller films. T...

ABOUT

Image
My name is Hamna fajar, and I'm a student at Kaizen high. Choosing media was thoroughly based on my passion for film-making from a young age. I chose Media Studies because I’ve always been really interested in how media influences the way we see the world and connect with each other. I like the idea of combining creativity with critical thinking, and this course felt like the perfect mix of both. I want to learn more about how media is made, how it affects people, and how stories can be used to make a real impact.
