What is Genre?

Genre is without a doubt the most important features of a film production. The basis of a film project- the script- starts with knowing the genre it is gonna be based upon. With this the directors can easily identify there target audience, and create meaningful work. For example, thriller movies often have a deadline that the heroes life depends on, and a dark atmosphere is given to the film that has the consumers gripping there seats in anticipation. Thriller- enthusiasts also often find comfort in the compelling mind games that are often given in the films, making them addicted to the rare adrenaline this genre of film brings. This is what appeals the fans/ consumers of thriller movies and hence helps in the producers create the film with certain elements in it.

What is Sub-Genre?

Sub genre is the further classified version of genres, and is often mixed with other sub- genres of the bigger genre to give it a kick. One example of this, again, are thriller films. These films can be further divided into; action thriller, physiological thriller, crime thriller, etc. Sub-genres can also help in filtering the target audience you want, hence creating a versatile marketing scheme and making sure the film reaches the right consumers who understand the films context and description.

What is hybrid-genre?

A hybrid genre is when a single film has a mix of 2-3 different genres in it to create a unique experience. This also helps create a flexible production that targets and appeals a lot of different audiences that has them compelled to watch this hybrid-genre based movies. Example, Action-comedies, Romantic- fantasy, sci-fi thriller, etc.    

TYPES OF GENRES:

 

Drama: its mostly based on real life issues, and emotions. it explores situation like relationships, identity, or betrayal. The lighting and mise-en-scene are set in such a way that it majorly seems realistic.

Horror: It majorly based upon anything that makes the viewer scared, and at often times squeamish too. The lighting is harsh, and the music plays a huge roll to, as it is used to psychologically effect the viewer.

Comedy: The purpose of this genre is to entertain through humor.
